The Woodrow Wilson Award is one of five awards presented each year by the Johns Hopkins University Alumni Association in recognition of deserving graduates, professors and friends of the university. The award is named after the 28th president of the United States, who obtained a doctoral degree in history from the university in 1886 and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1919. Other Alumni Association Awards include the Heritage Award for long-term contribution to the university, the Distinguished Alumnus Award for contribution to the university’s reputation through professional achievements or humanitarian services, the Global Achievement Award for world renowned professional achievements or humanitarian services, the Outstanding Recent Graduate Award, and the Community Hero Award. Since its founding in 1876, there have been 36 Nobel laureates affiliated with Johns Hopkins University. The university’s School of Medicine, which opened in 1893, was the first graduate college of medicine in the United States, while the Bloomberg School of Public Health, established in 1916, was the first independent, degree-granting institution for research and training in public health in the country and is now the nation’s largest public health training facility. Meanwhile, the Johns Hopkins Hospital has been ranked as the best hospital in America for the past 30 consecutive years. During her stay in the United States, in addition to taking part in the awards presentation ceremony, CY President Chang also paid a visit to the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office as well as attended the ROC National Day Reception at the Twin Oaks Estate.
