Republic of Paraguay Comptroller José Enrique García and Director General of Legal Affairs César Bernardino Nuñez Alarcón visited the Control Yuan July 26 at the invitation of the National Audit Office. During the visit, they met with CY President Chang Po-Ya, Vice President Sun Ta-Chuan, Auditor General Lin Ching-Long and Deputy Secretary-General Hsu Hai-Chuan, engaging in a friendly discussion on the supervision and auditing systems of the ROC and Paraguay. Both sides expressed the hope for more opportunities for related exchanges and experience-sharing based on the strong foundation of 60 years of formal diplomatic ties between the two countries. The two former lawyers’ itinerary in Taiwan focused on visiting anti-corruption agencies, including the Ministry of Justice’s Investigation Bureau and Agency Against Corruption, as well as the National Audit Office, in order to learn from the ROC’s successful experience in combating corruption and then apply this practical knowledge in their similar efforts in Paraguay. The two distinguished guests praised the ROC’s constitutional system of government as well as its efficient and transparent financial and auditing system that ensures against maladministration and therefore protects the rights of the nation’s citizens, thereby serving as an excellent model for other countries to emulate. They extended a cordial invitation for CY President Chang to visit Paraguay during the period of the scheduled presidential election next year, to further foster friendly ties between the two nations.
