The Control Yuan Members Dr. Louis R. Chao and Dr. Bing-nun Li left for Madrid, Spain from October 22 to November 4, 2009 to participate in the 14th Annual Conference of the Ibero-American Ombudsman Federation. It was a very successful attendance. There was broaden discussion about the generalization and interdependence of human rights protection and the current status and crisis analysis of the system of America human rights protection in the conference. Furthermore, the Control Yuan Members also called on Dr. Peter Kostelka, the newly elected Secretary General of the IOI, so as to express our fully support of the IOI in Vienna, Austria. Dr. Peter Kostelka is also the Chief Ombudsman of Austria. During the visit, they exchanged opinions about the ombudsman system of the East and West in a harmonious atmosphere and established good relations between each other. Meanwhile, the Control Yuan Members inspected the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Austria and Spain as well as Taipei Representative Office in Netherlands on October 23, 26 and November 2, 2009.
