The Defensor of the Republic of Paraguay Mr. Manuel María Páez Monges visited Taiwan for six days from May 21 to 26 at the invitation of the Control Yuan. Mr. Páez, who is nominated with the consent of the Parliament, is the highest Ombudsperson in Paraguay. Paraguay is one of the members of the Iberoamerican Federation of Ombudsman (FIO). The main purpose of his visit is to fulfill the Agreement on the Inter-institutional and Technical Collaboration between the Control Yuan of the Republic of China and the Ombudsman Office of the Republic of Paraguay and to promote our mutual relations. In addition to visiting the Control Yuan, the Ministry of Audit, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Páez will hear briefings of the ROC on Taiwan in the Government Information Office, visit Hsinchu Science Park, and attend a symposium in the Graduate Institute of Latin American Studies of Tamkang University on the topic of the Defensor system and human rights protection.
