The Control Yuan Inspects Human Rights Organizations in South East Asia

To learn the operation of human rights organizations in other countries, Meng-ling Chen, the Control Yuan Vice President and Chairman of its Human Rights Protection Committee, together with Member Chang-ping Chao and Member Yih-chang Chan, left for countries in South East Asia from December 16-22, 2002, to inspect their systems. They visited the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia and the National Human Rights Commission of Thailand. Representatives of these two commissions expressed their heartfelt welcome to the Control Yuan delegation and had an animated discussion about human rights protection with their visitors. All those who participated in the discussion looked forward to mutual exchanges, which is regarded as a good start of further understanding. The Control Yuan delegation also inspected Taipei Economic and Cultural Offices in Malaysia and Thailand during this trip.
