A delegation of high-ranking military officers from Central and South America visited the Control Yuan (CY) on the afternoon of May 7, 2015. The visitors joined a discussion with CY President Dr. Chang Po-ya and toured a special exhibition “Century of Elegance, Eternal Vigilance,” which celebrates the Centennial of the Control Yuan Building.
President Chang extended a warm welcome to the guests and briefly introduced the powers and achievements of the CY. She noted that the CY’s core mission is to safeguard human rights and ensure clean government administration.
President Chang also introduced the guests to the special exhibition “Century of Elegance, Eternal Vigilance” currently held at the CY. She noted that the exhibition is a special event celebrating the centennial birthday of the historic building and hopes to introduce the public to the architectural beauty of the CY building as well as the results achieved from the exercise of control powers.
During the discussion, the guests also posed many questions, including how CY members are appointed, who supervises CY members, and what countermeasures can be taken against administrative agencies that fail to make improvements required under corrective measures stipulated by the CY. Regarding the matter of the 11 pending nominees of CY members still awaiting for approval by the Legislative Yuan, President Chang replied that this is a political problem and hoped that legislators could start reviewing the nominees as soon as possible to lessen the huge workload currently shared by the 18 CY members.
The delegation consisted of participants of the 2015 Advanced National Development Spanish Course. They were accompanied by the Executive Officer of the National Defense University Colonel Ni Pang-chen during the visit to the CY today. Also attending the meeting were CY Vice President Mr. Sun Ta-chuan, CY Secretary-General Mr. Fu Meng-jung, and CY Deputy Secretary-General Mr. Hsu Hai-chuan.
