Argentine Council for Foreign Affairs (CARI) Delegation Visits the Control Yuan

Chairperson of the Asian Affairs Committee of Argentine Council for Foreign Affairs (CARI) Mr. Eduardo Sadous and the Consulting Member of the CARI Asian Pacific Committee Ms. Carola Romon-Berjano visited the Control Yuan (CY) on the afternoon of October 16. The visitors exchanged views with CY President Chang Po-ya and the members of the CY International Affairs Committee (IAC).
In her welcome remarks, President Chang praised Mr. Sadous as ‘a friend of Asia,’ who had served as ambassador to many countries, including nine years of in India and Malaysia. She also noted that the CY signed a bilateral cooperation agreement with its Argentine counterpart in 1999 and expressed hope that the collaboration between the two countries could be extended into other areas.
Mr. Sadous thanked President Chang for her hospitality, and noted his surprise at the considerable power of the CY to effectively check and balance the executive branch. "I wish that we also could have a Control Yuan,” he noted.
Apart from visiting President Chang, the guests were firstly briefed in Spanish by CY member and Chairperson of IAC Dr. Jane, Y.W. Chiang on the CY’s functions and powers. They then had a discussion with Dr. Jane and Dr. Bau Tzong-ho, also a member of the CY, on a variety of issues. They also visited the CY Complaint Receipt Center and learned about the process of receiving complaints.
Before leaving, Mr. Sadous invited President Chang and the CY members to visit Argentina, and expressed the hope for more exchanges between the two sides in the future.
